Deprecated Feedback Forum

This is a deprecated feature request forum for GitLab CE/EE/CI features. As you can now vote on issues in GitLab, we’re moving the feature requests to the same project as we’re doing development in. This should make the step from request to development smaller and faster.

GitLab CE & CI feature requests

To submit a feature request for GitLab CE (including CI), please search and vote for or create an issue in the GitLab-CE project on GitLab.com: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues

GitLab EE feature requests

To submit a feature request for GitLab EE, please search and vote for or create an issue in the GitLab EE project on GitLab.com: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ee/issues

I don’t see my feature request on GitLab.com

If you don’t see your feature request on GitLab.com, feel free to create an issue on the issue tracker in the appropriate project and place a comment here to link it for everyone. Alternatively, most popular feature requests will have their issue linked from here in time.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    • Better presentation of mentions under issues they refer to

Currently the mentions show only the user and a link back to the issue making the mention, this provides little context for the mention and could be significantly improved. Github calls these references and lists them with clearly and simply with their title and status. This is useful as we use the mentions feature to tie together issues/tasks in a subtask like manner. Github's treatment here works well because under an abstract top level issue/task we can see referencing tasks (sub tasks) at a glance by title and status

        • Tips to Care for Fragile Items

Yes, most of the moving services in the industry offer insurance for the goods they are transporting. In the moving process, many people complain that they may have lost some stuff during the moving process but have no idea at what point it got lost. Use of moving services is procedural and so there is little possibility of things disappearing. However, if it does happen and they are found liable, then they definitely pay for that. Also, considering you are an ordinary person, you may not have the prowess of packing loading and transporting. Once you arrive at the destined…

          • allow users to use multiple ssh keys

Currently it appears uses are limited to a single ssh key. In a particular project I am working this makes many things awkward, as I need to use different ssh keys in different network areas for compliance reasons.

It would be useful to be able to associate more than one ssh key per user in order to allow code to be committed and pushed from different security environments.

Much like Xcode CI has a wallboard, or JIRA or much any other program it would be great to see something like this for GitLab CI.

                      • Ability to use username as account ID instead of email

LDAP integration can lead to following security problem because the mail attribute is not an LDAP identificator in general:

                        http://doc.gitlab.com/ce/integration/ldap.html#security

Would it be possible, to allow the usage of the username as identificator instead of the email address?

                          • Create a leaner package for power users

The current Omnibus package is fantastic for getting users up and running. Some users, however, feel that the Omnibus package is too bloated. For example, if the user wants to use their own Postgres or Nginx/Apache they would rather not have those dependencies brought in with the package.

Consider creating a 'bare' GitLab Omnibus package which only includes Ruby/Gems plus GitLab source. Let users include their own database and web server.

                                • Support Jekyll/markdown post editing in file editor mode

File editing in Gitlab is very useful for editing posts and pages for Jekyll, but the preview part renders the Jekyll metadata at the top of the page.

A mode which would ignore everything between and including the first two instances of the string "---" while in preview mode would be more visually attractive to edit with.

                                  • Implement a simple build status API

I need this for building a build status indicator such as github's traffic light: https://github.com/blog/653-our-new-build-status-indicator

This only needs to be simple, just an endpoint that returns global status, and per project status.

                                    Something like:

                                    GET /ci/build/status

                                    {
status: [ "pass", "building", "fail"] // return one,
                                    }

I searched around and couldn't find anything related to this.

                                    • Add additional ways to recieve notifications

I want to get my notifications either via xmpp (aka jabber) or posted into an IRC channel without having to run an irker gateway.

Github has three yes THREE different xmpp brokers now, and a really easy to set up IRC bot.

gitlab.com needs nice things like this too.

                                      • Display the branch name in the merge request list

When reviewing merge request, I find it useful to check the corresponding issue in the external issue tracker. We are naming the branches using the issue number but I need to open the merge request to see the branch name.

                                        • Jupyter/Ipython notebook rendering

We're working quite a lot with Python, and we also use IPython/Jupyter notebooks to present/share/distribute tutorials, presentations, teaching material etc (university context). Rendering these notebooks is a very cool feature :-), and [nbviewer](http://nbviewer.ipython.org/) is an example of such a static web renderer ([source](https://github.com/jupyter/nbviewer)). You can feed it a URL or Github repo/gist to render it for you. As of today, [Github](https://github.com/blog/1995-github-jupyter-notebooks-3) (see what they say at [HackerNews](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9507069) about that) also renders Jupiter notebooks natively.

The static rendering of IPython/Jupyter notebooks has been mentioned a while ago on the [mailing list](http://mail.scipy.org/pipermail/ipython-dev/2013-October/012452.html),…
