Deprecated Feedback Forum

This is a deprecated feature request forum for GitLab CE/EE/CI features. As you can now vote on issues in GitLab, we’re moving the feature requests to the same project as we’re doing development in. This should make the step from request to development smaller and faster.

GitLab CE & CI feature requests

To submit a feature request for GitLab CE (including CI), please search and vote for or create an issue in the GitLab-CE project on GitLab.com: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues

GitLab EE feature requests

To submit a feature request for GitLab EE, please search and vote for or create an issue in the GitLab EE project on GitLab.com: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ee/issues

I don’t see my feature request on GitLab.com

If you don’t see your feature request on GitLab.com, feel free to create an issue on the issue tracker in the appropriate project and place a comment here to link it for everyone. Alternatively, most popular feature requests will have their issue linked from here in time.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Show user handle when inviting users

Now that users have handles a name is not enough. In addition to the name it should also search by handle.

    • make "Commits"-tab (and all its subtabs) a part of "Files" to ease browsing.

Currently it requires to many clicks to go from browsing the source to go to browsing branches, and I really do not see the point of having a tab which only shows the source files.

Instead the "Commits"-tab and all of its subtabs should become a part of the "Files" tab.

      • Importing issues from other platforms

When moving a repo to Gitlab it would be great if you could import existing issues from Jira, Github, etc.

        • Add new Member to Team by Email

I think its a very bad ideia to have all gitlab users listed when we going to add a new member to team. Would be better to just had email.
          Thanks and Congratulations

I wish you could make new gem releases straight from @github. Should have an entire release work flow: tag it, build it, release it.

            • Issue backlog grooming from dashboard

A supervisor should be able to groom issues in the backlog. Grooming entails the ability to sort issues, ***across projects***, by up-votes such that all issues are interlaced and exist in a single, sorted table.

                  • Browse issues *without* grouping by project

When browsing issues across multiple projects, the interface currently groups issues by project. In order to better determine, across projects, which issues are important, it would be better if this grouping were eliminated.

Effectively, display the list of issues as a flat list.

This enables sorting by Recently Updated across projects which is an effective determiner of whether an issue is important.

Each issue could individually be marked as being from project X. That way, which project an issue is from can still be determined.

                      • API should give better error messages

When there is a problem the API should provide a clear error message in the body of the response (missing parameter, invalid access token, failed validation, etc.). We don't want to change the return codes (mostly 404) since that might break things and would require a new version of the API.

                        • Make members tab of project easier to access

I most frequently go to settings to view or edit the members tab. Can we open the members page when someone presses settings and make it the top tab in the left side menu? This would make the Edit project the second tab item in the left side menu. So basically this would swap the 'Edit' and 'Members' page of a project. For groups the members view already is the default.

                          • More informative messages for oAuth errors

For example, you should not only get a 422 when your username is taken but also see a message that explains that your username is taken.

                              • Allow flatdoc content in wiki via web interface

Currently the GitLab project wiki only allows rdoc and markdown editing. Please can you consider allowing flatdoc editing via the web interface. It seems the wiki can already render flatdoc correctly when its added directly via git so this change should be fairly trivial.

                                  • Make the project select sidebar responsive

When the window is smaller than 992px, the project selection sidebar disappears. This is really annoying if you don't have a lot of screen real estate.

A simple solution would be to make this a sidebar that slides over the content, after clicking on a little label that is fixed to the right side of the screen. Exactly as done with the left-side menu of this site: http://semantic-ui.com/ (click on menu to see).

                                        • Dashboard project list should display full project name on hover Edit

At present, where there are long project names the get truncated and appended with an ellipsis. It would be handy if hovering over one of these items displayed the full project name. Further, it would be useful to be able to click the Project title and get full list of the projects. Based on https://github.com/gitlabhq/gitlabhq/issues/1186
