Deprecated Feedback Forum

This is a deprecated feature request forum for GitLab CE/EE/CI features. As you can now vote on issues in GitLab, we’re moving the feature requests to the same project as we’re doing development in. This should make the step from request to development smaller and faster.

GitLab CE & CI feature requests

To submit a feature request for GitLab CE (including CI), please search and vote for or create an issue in the GitLab-CE project on GitLab.com: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues

GitLab EE feature requests

To submit a feature request for GitLab EE, please search and vote for or create an issue in the GitLab EE project on GitLab.com: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ee/issues

I don’t see my feature request on GitLab.com

If you don’t see your feature request on GitLab.com, feel free to create an issue on the issue tracker in the appropriate project and place a comment here to link it for everyone. Alternatively, most popular feature requests will have their issue linked from here in time.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Remove group with ajax

Because group removal with a lot of projects gives a timeout

    • "Watch" option for fellow developers

I would be nice to have a list of favorite developers and getting notified when followed developers push code to repo...

      • Project-specific hooks for shell

        I had a script in <project_name>.git/hooks/post-receive
It was a bash script for specific repository that connected to remote web-server via ssh and pulled the code from "dev" branch. I was able to see all output from the script.

Now it's ruby script there that is required to update at least activity log in GitLab. Also scripts there shared by all repositories.

Web hook isn't secure for that. Web-server should not have access to shell and modify content of the site.

Need an ability to run project-specific shell scripts with output to local console on pushes.

          • Make the project select sidebar responsive

When the window is smaller than 992px, the project selection sidebar disappears. This is really annoying if you don't have a lot of screen real estate.

A simple solution would be to make this a sidebar that slides over the content, after clicking on a little label that is fixed to the right side of the screen. Exactly as done with the left-side menu of this site: http://semantic-ui.com/ (click on menu to see).

              • Render complex markdown links

It is not possible to make a link of a block now:

                <code>codeblock</code> other text

It would be nice if the part that is `` would be rendered as clickable code.

                  • Keyboard shortcut to go to the canonical url

If I link to a line number of a file I want to be sure that it doesn't change over time. With a keyboard shortcut I want to go from:

                    https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/blob/master/Gemfile
                    to
                    https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/blob/6a85cdf1627629ecaa762fa60a7abdbd092cc20a/Gemfile

So the line number link doesn't change over time.

                    • Dashboard project list should display full project name on hover Edit

At present, where there are long project names the get truncated and appended with an ellipsis. It would be handy if hovering over one of these items displayed the full project name. Further, it would be useful to be able to click the Project title and get full list of the projects. Based on https://github.com/gitlabhq/gitlabhq/issues/1186

                      • import

Currently via the rake task import:repos it's only possible to bulk import every repository. Would be great to have an option to specifically define a repository to import only that single one.

                        • Show project icons in the Starred Projects list

Currently, on the "Your Projects" tab in the Dashboard, project icons are shown for each project; however, when you switch to "Starred Projects", no project icons are shown. It'd be much easier to find what I'm looking for if project icons were present.

                          • Filter only issues / merge requests by group / project members.

If you have a Public Repo (like GitlabHQ itself), it would be useful filter only issues / merge requests made by group / project members, so you can give more importance to those first.

It should of course also be possible to view only issues / MRs from non members, or all issues as is currenty the only option.

For groups, the filter would show issues that belong either:

                            - to group members
                            - to project members

                              • Add recent Git connection type details

Allow admins to see how many connections have been made over Git HTTPS vs Git SSH over the last day, week, month, etc. Might be interesting to have both a total number of connections count as well as a unique users count. Perhaps even go so far to track the last time the user used each connection type.

                                e.g.
12 Users connected over Git SSH in the last 7 days
202 Users connected over Git HTTP/HTTPS in the last 7 days

                                • Compare view should indicate when two refs point to the same commit

                                  Based on https://github.com/gitlabhq/gitlabhq/issues/1506

I spent an hour today trying to figure out why the compare view was not showing a difference between two branch on one of my repositories. So I finally tried a compare between to branches on another repo and it worked. Then I figured the out the branches were referring to the same commit. However the compare view does not indicate as such. The compare view should say something if the two refs entered are the the same thing.

                                  • Make default project tag configurable

When opening a project, the default tab is "Activity". For me, it generally provides zero to no value, and the same is true for many others.

I'd love to be able to configure the default tab, so that README is the default tab (I expect other would appreciate the same).

I say *configurable* because I'm sure many disagree and would like to keep the current behaviour.

                                    • able to define user contact details

It would be very handy if administrator could define own contact information option.

We use Bitmessage to communicate, and it would be nice if we could add our address to gitlab.

                                      • Extend Stats: Total Sum of Commits

Would be nice to extend the Stats for the Admin with "Total sum of commits".
